Emmaus meets NWI BLT

16th Oct 2016

Emmaus is a new initiative, set to offer homeless people a safe place to work and the chance to rebuild their lives in a supportive environment through a work related framework. By providing dignity through a dedicated place of work, they aim to rebuild confidence by giving or supporting the skills of the people that join our community. Always looking for support and there are many ways you can get involved.

There are 21 Emmaus Projects in the UK and 300 over the world. The staff working there are mainly volunteers and since it opened in February, five have already moved into work. The shop has got so busy that it had to employ one full time and one part time staff. There is also a cafe which opened in September and a drink + cake costs £1.95.

Friends of Emmaus include Suffolk County Council, Ipswich Borough Council, Marks & Spencer’s, Waitrose, Ipswich Building Society and Ipswich Locality Homeless Partnership.

You can find them @ The Dales, 216 Dales Road, Ipswich IP1 4JY – There is plenty of parking front and back. Call on 01473 225627 and on Facebook

Thanks Claire Studden for telling us all about the great work happening over there!
