From the beginning of NWI BLT we have placed developments for young people as a top priority. From our early days we have listened to what they have to say and we have funded various activities especially the skate park in Whitehouse Park.
We want a better way for young people to be involved so we set up a youth forum for 12-25 year olds, to meet monthly, bring ideas and decide ways to spend some BLT money. Members renamed this group Diversity 2 Unity (D2U).
The 1st project that they wanted to do was to put on an Open Mic night. They said that most young people enjoy music, and many play instruments or sing but they don’t get much chance to play to anyone outside of the classroom or home. Holding an Open Mic night would provide an opportunity to play to a small audience in their own friendly, supportive community.
The event was a great success and pleas for another one have boosted confidences. Congratulations to everyone that performed, you were brilliant! Well done Mal Pearson for organising the first session, you did a great job & can now add Event Organiser to your CV! Thanks too for The Meeting place Community Centre in Limerick Close for making your lovely newly refurbished rooms available, it was perfect.https://themeetingplacewhitehouse.wordpress.com/
